Mission

To build the power and capacity of low-income people, especially low-income people of color, to change the policies and institutions that impact their lives.

Our North Star

Community Change works to realize an affirmative vision for the future — where a grassroots movement of organized people holds the power to abolish poverty in the United States.

Poverty abolition is essential to undoing the violence of systemic racism, misogyny, and white supremacy in our country and achieving the promise of the American experiment — a robust multiracial democracy and a fair economy.

Our Approach

The fight against poverty presents a unique opportunity to rebalance power by delivering material benefits that show our democracy works and by inspiring people with a positive vision of a future we can build. We harness three types of interlocking power:

Outside Power

We provide community-organizing expertise, on-the-ground analysis and support, and civic engagement approaches that build the capacity of our community-based partners to shape federal strategy and advance state and local agendas.

Inside Power

We bridge thought leadership and relationships for an inside-the-beltway influence that is rooted in accountability to the field.

Movement Power

We convene and connect progressive movement actors, invest in grassroots talent and leadership, and incubate new movement projects and innovative approaches to organizing.
