Presidential candidates must step up for America’s children and families and commit to fight for the Child Care for Working Families Act

Washington, D.C. – Presidential Democratic candidate Sen. Kamala Harris released a plan today that includes a pledge to fight for the Child Care for Working Families Act, a bill introduced in Congress earlier this year that would substantially expand our federal child care system.

“Parents– from every zip code and income bracket– face one thing in common: The pressing issue of child care,” says Community Change Action president Lorella Praeli. “Parents everywhere need affordable, quality, and culturally relevant child care so they can go to work knowing that their children are safe and in good care. And child care providers–most of whom are women of color–must earn enough to thrive, not be forced to choose between paying the rent or having enough food on the table for their families.

The growing movement of parents, child care providers and grassroots leaders who have been demanding a bold solution to the national child care crisis commend Senator Harris for making this a part of her fight. We call on all candidates to step up for children and the needs of American families.”
