Community Change Statement on January 6th Committee

Washington, DC – Community Change Co-Presidents Lorella Praeli and Dorian Warren released the following statement on the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol, which voted to issue criminal referrals against former President Donald J. Trump for insurrection and three other charges:

“The Select Committee’s historic decision is an important step to holding Trump and MAGA Republicans accountable for their assault on democracy. The Committee’s painstaking work has made clear to voters what’s at stake. This November, voters across the country rejected conspiracy theorists and extremist politicians who peddled lies about our elections in an attempt to undermine our government and institutions. Voters understand that democracy is under attack and worth fighting for.

“Although the Select Committee’s work is coming to an end, our work in the progressive movement to achieve a true multi-racial democracy continues. The rise of white nationalism, in part fueled by Republican politicians, underscores the need for us to double down on our efforts.

“In a multi-racial democracy, we understand that economic justice is necessary to full participation; that true racial equality must remain a core struggle and that the people must triumph over corporate power and violent extremists. We are committed to mobilizing voters who value our fundamental freedoms to protect and expand  democracy in spite of the threats of MAGA Republicans and make Americans’ deep democratic aspirations real.”
