Mayorkas Will Serve as Deputy Director of DHS
(WASHINGTON)—The Fair Immigration Reform Movement commends the Senate for confirming the nomination of Alejandro Mayorkas as the next Deputy Director of the Department of Homeland Security.
“With some 1,100 families feeling the anguish of separation every day under the Obama administration due to deportations, DHS sorely needs strong, sensible leadership at DHS, and Mayorkas is the right person for the job,” said Kica Matos, FIRM spokesperson.
“In his prior leadership position at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Mayorkas has handled tough circumstances and disparate interests with dignity and respect for all communities and led the way on implementing the Deferred Action Referrals for Childhood Arrivals (DACA),” Matos said. “FIRM looks forward to working with Mayorkas to achieve a better immigration system that can better serve America’s immigrant communities.”
