Backing for Pathway to Citizenship and Family Unification Adds Powerful New Voice and Momentum to Immigration Reform Push
(WASHINGTON)—The Fair Immigration Reform Movement today praised the Sierra Club for its position supporting immigration reform that embraces a pathway to citizenship and keeps families together.
Through its game-changing work protecting the nation from environmental hazards, the Sierra Club has seen firsthand that many immigrants have jobs in hazardous industries and often live in areas with contaminated air, water and soil.
“Immigrants have for too long hidden in the shadows and had no voice on these issues, so they suffer in silence while their health and the health of their families are jeopardized,” said Deepak Bhargava, Executive Director of the Center for Community Change. “We thank the Sierra Club for speaking up on behalf of the health and well-being of immigrants.”
“The Sierra Club knows that building a healthy and prosperous United States involves everyone who lives here,” Bhargava added. “We look forward to working with them to achieve a humane and compassionate comprehensive immigration reform bill. A powerful new voice for keeping families together has spoken today.”
